Hey South Shore, we made it to the long weekend, the one with the extra day tacked on the back. This is the stretch where you get one more Monday to yourselves before the school-year rhythm takes back over, and around here we tend to spend it slow: on the water, on a Main Street, at a Sunday market with no particular place to be. Summer isn't quite done with us yet.

The setup helps. After a stormy Thursday evening, Friday clears to sun and the weekend holds two of the nicest days we've seen since mid-August. That opens up everything from a McCartney songbook night in Oakdale to a full 90s takeover on the Patchogue waterfront. Five days to work with, so there's no rush.

Labor Day Monday is also the last day of the Town of Babylon beach season, which makes this the kind of weekend where the community squeezes out every last drop. The markets, the vineyards, the harbor decks, the neighbors who keep sending us tips about what's worth the drive. That's the South Shore heading into September, and we're glad to be out in it with you. Now let's get into it.

Top 5 for the Weekend

Millennial Marketplace: 90s Edition - Dublin Deck (Patchogue)

Dublin Deck goes full throwback for an all-day 90s takeover on the Patchogue waterfront. Vendors set up starting at 2 PM, then the live sets roll in from 3: The Fresh Kids of Bel-Air, Whip Its, The MySpace Band, and Saved By The Band, with DJ Tech Pat spinning 90s hits straight through. Sunday clears to sun in the low 70s by the bay, which is about as good as a September afternoon on the water gets. Bring the crew that grew up on this stuff.
