Hey South Shore, last weekend we celebrated 250 years of American independence and the towns went all out. The days ran hot, the fireworks kept popping up all over the South Shore, and there was so much happening in every direction you looked. If you were out there under the sky watching the bay light up, you already know how good it felt.
This weekend keeps that same run going. Thursday and Friday open with free outdoor concerts on two different Babylon stages, and Sunday brings the Legion parking lot in Babylon back to life for one more 250th celebration built for the whole neighborhood. Four days, all four towns, plenty to pick from.
None of this happens without the people who put it together. American Legion Post 94 is opening its lot to feed 500 or more of their neighbors, the town crews string the lights on the summer concert stages, and readers keep sending us the tips that fill this thing out. That's the South Shore in early July. Now let's get into it.

Top 5 for the Weekend
America's 250th Parking Lot Party - American Legion Post 94 (Babylon)

The folks at American Legion Post 94 are throwing open their parking lot for a patriotic cookout marking America's 250th, and they've built it for the whole neighborhood. Live music, a full BBQ spread, family fun zones and kids activities, a balloon artist, and a military vehicle showcase fill the afternoon. Organizers are expecting 500 to 1,000 or more neighbors to roll through. Sunday looks sunny and comfortable at 79, which makes an afternoon in the lot an easy call.
